Port development in Colombia is about to take a great leap forward with the entry into operation of Port of Antioquia in 2025. This megaproject will not only transform the dynamics of foreign trade in Urabá, Antioquia, but will also open up new opportunities for companies like LOGI.CO, which are strategically positioned in the Urabá Free Trade Zone.

What is Puerto Antioquia and why is it so important?

Puerto Antioquia is a multipurpose terminal located on the southeastern side of the Gulf of Urabá, in Antioquia, Colombia. With the capacity to handle general cargo, vehicles, refrigerated and dry containers, and solid and liquid bulk (non-hydrocarbons), this port stands out for its strategic location, being 350 kilometers closer to the country's main production and consumption centers than other ports in the Colombian Caribbean.

Significant reduction in times and distances

One of the main benefits of Puerto Antioquia is the considerable reduction in ground transportation times and distances. For example, the trip between Medellín and Puerto Antioquia can be completed in a single day, allowing trucks to leave Medellín, deliver their cargo at the port, and return the same day. Currently, this trip to ports like Cartagena or Barranquilla can take between five and six days.

Furthermore, the distance between Bogotá and Puerto Antioquia is reduced to 418 km, compared to 1,136 km to Cartagena, representing a 63% reduction in the distance traveled.

Economic and logistical impact

The reduction in distances and transportation times translates into significant savings in logistics costs. It is estimated that Puerto Antioquia could reduce logistics costs by up to $140 million annually, particularly benefiting sectors such as the agroindustrial sector.
